Badgers - Year 6
Welcome to Badger Class information page.
Welcome to Year 5/6
We are supported through our learning journey by our teacher, Mrs Durham, and our teaching assistants, Mrs Durows and Miss Burton.
Year 5 and 6 are the final years of primary school. We continue to build on the independence of your child as a learner and a citizen in our local community.
As we head towards secondary school choices, we prepare children for transition and ensure they have the key skills to support them for their next journey.
Year 6 children are required to take the statutory government tests.
Reading
Over the course of the year, children are expected to read at both school and home. Children are encouraged to read a wide range of genres. They can record their reading journey in their reading diary at home. Every term, children earn raffle tickets for regular home reading and are entered into a raffle where they can win beautiful books as a prize.
P.E.
P.E. takes place on Tuesday and Friday afternoon.
Please ensure that children come into school on P.E. days wearing their kit.
Long hair should be tied back and earrings should be removed before the lesson begins.
Home learning
Each week, children will be set homework. This will be sent home as a paper copy and by email so that parents can see it online.
There is an expectation that homework should be presented to the same standard as work in school.
Homework is set on a Friday and due back on the following Monday.
Trips/ Visitors
In Year 6, we have a residential trip to PGL Caythorpe in the Spring term. We stay for two nights over the weekend and take part in a fantastic variety of activities; the children learn to be independent and improve their resilience and teamwork skills.
As part of our Crime and Punishment history learning, we visit Lincoln Castle in the to learn about local history.
We take part in an annual Church Schools Festival where we visit Lincoln Cathedral and spend the day with children from other LAAT schools: we sing together, visit the learning centre to do an art activity and have a guided tour of the cathedral before we enjoy a service which celebrates the end of primary school and transition to secondary school.
We also welcome visitors who share their love of a range of subjects with the children, including science, STEM subjects and history.
